VIEW THE MAJESTIC ARGALI SHEEP:
Gun-Galuut offers a truly unique
opportunity for viewing these majestic creatures in their natural
habitat, therefore this activity has become a must-do for anyone who
visits the nature reserve. Baits mountain, a range of mountains located
5-10 km southwest of the complex, is not only home to the Argali sheep
flock but one might also chance upon grey wolf, Mongolian marmot, fox,
corsac fox, vulture, falcon, lammergeier, eagle and many other types of
wildlife.
WATCH ENDANGERED BIRDS
An astounding number of bird species, 156 species to be exact, were sighted
and registered in Gun-Galuut. For this reason, the area has become a loved
destination for local and inter - national birdwatchers. You can be sure
that your day will be an unforgettable memory when you gaze upon the endangered
White-naped Crane, the symbol of Gun-Galuut Nature reserve, peacefully
roaming. Threatened species such as Swan Goose, Bar-headed Goose, Whooper
swan, Ruddy shelduck, Relict Gull, Grey Heron, Black stork are sighted
often while globally criti - cally endangered species such as Siberian
crane, Common crane, Hooded crane and Dalmatian pelican are sighted occasionally
RIDE MONGOLIAN HORSE
One of the favorite activities of visitors to Gun-Galuutai is riding a
Mongolian horse across the rolling green steppe. Riders can feel such a
joy when travelling through high mountains and across waters to reach destina
- tions which are inaccessible for vehicles. As part of our com - munity-based
tourism effort, we have been working closely with the local herder families
for many a year, and they will provide excellent support during your horse
trekking, including comfortable saddles and calm horses. You can also rent
protective helmets and spurs from the camp and an experienced wrangler
can be provided to you by the local families.
RAFTING ON KHERLEN RIVER
It is an unrivaled fantastic experience
to observe the wildlife and the nomadic lives bustling along the
riverside while taking a boat ride on the peaceful Kherlen river.
Therefore, we highly recommend a day of boat riding is to our guests to
enjoy the breathtaking landscape of Gun-Galuut. You can rent 8-person
raft, 2 and 1 person kayaks from our friendly managers at the camp.
FISHING AT THE TAIMEN BAY
Lenok and Grayling are among the most
commonly found fish species in Kherlen river. In addition, fish species
such as Taimen, Pike, False asp, Asian common carp, Amur Ide, Prussian
Carp, Burbot, Amur catfish are also common. Visitors are allowed to fish
in Kherlen river all year round except between April 1st and June 15th.
In the early spring and early fall, Kherlen river is most abundant with
fish which makes it a great destination for fishers.
WITNESS NOMADIC CULTURE
Visiting the local communities and herder families is the top priority
of most our international travelers as Mongolia boasts one of the few remaining
truly nomadic cultures on earth. Customs of nomadic culture such as herding
and watering the live - stock, milking the cows and making dairy products
are among the favorite activities of our visitors to witness and take part
in. Our local nomadic families take great pride in extending their hospitality
and showing their rich cultural heritage to visitors.

slightest of exaggeration. Gun-Galuut offers a great diversity of
landscape for relatively small area, from high mountains, small hills
and rolling green steppe to mighty Kherlen river, numerous streams,
ponds and marsh, not to mention the amazing wildlife you will be able
witness on your trekking tour. As the reserve is well protected by local
rangers, you will feel very safe even if there is just one or two of
you.
